About the film

Shurik, a shy student of folklore, travels to the Caucasus to record toasts, legends and customs. He meets Nina, a lively student, and also Comrade Saakhov, an important local official who wants to marry her.

Saakhov hires three hopeless crooks, the Coward, the Fool and the Old Pro, to 'kidnap' Nina, and persuades Shurik that it is just an old local wedding tradition.

Full of songs, chases and slapstick, it is one of the most famous comedies ever made in Russian.
