About the film
Summer 1942: the German army drives towards the Volga and the Caucasus. In Stalingrad, Soviet troops are pushed back to a narrow strip of ruined city along the river.
Yuri Ozerov shows the battle on every level: Stalin and his generals, Hitler and his staff, and the defenders of the city house by house, until the Soviet counter-offensive traps the German Sixth Army.
Like his earlier Liberation, it is a huge war epic with an international cast.
