About the film
1920. The White Army's last stronghold in Crimea is falling. A cold, haunted general, Khludov, keeps order by hanging people. Serafima, a young woman looking for her husband, and Golubkov, a gentle young scholar, are swept up in the chaos together with the reckless General Charnota.
The second part follows them into emigration in Constantinople and Paris, where they sell what they can, gamble and try to understand what has happened to them and to Russia.
Based on Mikhail Bulgakov, Flight is both tragic and very funny. Mikhail Ulyanov's Charnota, playing cards for his life in Paris, is one of the great comic scenes of Soviet cinema.
