About the film
The film has two parts. In Andrei Smirnov's 'Angel', a train platform full of passengers crosses land held by a bandit chief called Angel, and the passengers argue about life and revolution until the bandits attack.
In Larisa Shepitko's 'Homeland of Electricity', based on Andrei Platonov, a young engineer arrives in a drought-stricken village on the Volga and tries to bring water with a home-made machine.
Made for the 50th anniversary of the revolution, the film was considered too dark and stayed on the shelf for twenty years.
