About the film

Gordei Kabachkov has no talent for science but a great talent for people. He arrives at the Institute of Classical Culture and, step by step, makes himself indispensable.

The learned members of the academic council are kind, cultured and conflict-avoiding, and that is exactly what he needs. Soon he is defending a dissertation and climbing higher still.

A sharp satire on careerism, this was the first feature film by Karen Shakhnazarov, now the head of Mosfilm.
