About the film

Somewhere, something fell from the sky and left behind the Zone, a guarded wasteland where the normal rules of space and time do not apply. Stalkers illegally guide people inside, towards a room that is said to make your innermost wish come true.

Three men set out: the Stalker, a tired Writer and a quiet Professor. The journey is slow, dangerous and almost entirely spent in dialogue, water and ruins, and as they get closer to the room each of them begins to doubt what he really wants.

Stalker is one of the great mysteries of cinema. It rewards patience, and many viewers count it among the most beautiful films ever made.

Did you know?

  • The Strugatsky brothers wrote the screenplay from their own novel.
  • Most of the first version was lost because of faulty film stock, and Tarkovsky shot the film again.
  • The Zone was filmed around abandoned industrial sites near Tallinn in Estonia.
