About the film
Misha Balzaminov lives in a small wooden house in old merchant Moscow. He is a minor clerk with no money and no prospects, and he dreams of being a general, or even a tsar. His loving mother agrees: all he needs is a wealthy wife.
With the help of a busy matchmaker he courts one rich woman after another, and fails every time. Then luck, of a sort, finally arrives.
Based on Ostrovsky's comic trilogy, the film is a gallery of wonderful Russian character actors. Vitsin's dreamy, hopeless Misha is one of his best roles.
